-= Guidelines for the Washington State Rally =-

1.  Second Amendment March can not issue legal advice regarding the possession of firearms at the rally.  All owners of firearms have a responsibility to understand all applicable laws regarding the carry and use of their guns.  Second Amendment March discourages anything other than the lawful possession of handguns at the rally.  The media's public portrayal of anything other than the lawful possssion of handguns is likely to be injurious to our efforts to garner further public support to protect and expand the right to keep and bear arms.

2.  Please be mindful that you are a representative of all the law abiding and responsible gun owners of this state and that the media will be closely watching you.

3.  This is a rally to celebrate and support the right to keep and bear arms.  This is not a forum to express views about federal and state government legislation and policies concerning the budget, deficit, health care, immigration or other matters.  Supporters of the right to keep and bear arms are a politically diverse group and EVERYONE is welcome.

4.  No commercial activity (where there is an exchange of value for a good or service) is allowed at the rally.  Our permit does not allow for any commercial acivity whatsoever and the state will charge Second Amendment March a very expensive hourly rate for any such activity.  Brochures, pamphlets, flyers and anything else may be given away at the rally for free.

5.  No alcohol is permited at the rally.

6.  Please dispose of all litter.  We would like to leave the grounds in a cleaner condition than were left for us.

7.  Sign posts, umbrellas and stakes must not be driven into the grass.

BATHROOMS WILL BE IN THE CAPITOL BUILDING

2A Rallies from one Washington to the 'other' suggest gun owners are growing restless

Monday’s Second Amendment March (SAM) in Washington, D.C. was a huge success compared to the armed gathering at Virginia’s nearby Fort Hunt and Gravelly Point parks, and now gun rights activists in the ‘other’ Washington (I prefer the real Washington) are working hard to match yesterday’s events right here in the Evergreen State.

As many as 2,000 people gathered in the shadow of the Washington Monument, and about 50 at Gravelly Point and Fort Hunt parks in Virginia.

A noon rally at Olympia’s Tivoli Fountain on the Capitol Campus is scheduled this Saturday, April 24. It almost did not happen, when a local coordinator bowed out pretty much without telling anyone. Picking up the ball and running with it like stallions are two Evergreen State gun rights activists, David Del Buono and Jim Beal. Del Buono is known on a state hunting forum as “Adams” and Beal calls himself “DEROS72” on the Open Carry forum. Gun owners owe these two men immeasurable gratitude for pulling this event together; for some people, doing the impossible just takes a little longer.

This may be a “be there or be square” event. As one member of the Open Carry Forum, who identifies himself as “Squeak” put it, I'm getting really tired of some that are taking this event as (if) it doesn't mean anything. They have to mow the lawn or change the oil in the car. These are the same people that will whine big time if their rights are lost…”

The Washington Monument SAM, initiated by my colleague Skip Coryell, drew an estimated 2,000 to 3,000 people, according to the Washington Post, and that newspaper is not known to be generous when estimating crowd sizes at conservative-oriented events. ...

Thank you Terri.

As Terri pointed out, I have been thrown the ball on our own 20 yard line with 20 seconds left in the game.  This morning I submitted an application to obtain a permit for our rally at the Capitol.  I hope to have a response to the permit application by 4/13.  Obviously we are very short on time.  A 4/13 approval would be less than one week from an event here to coincide with the national rally on 4/19.

Many states are having their events on dates other than the national event on 4/19.  I think it is important to focus on maximum turnout.  This rally is a participatory sport.  Most don't have the luxury of having the 19th, a weekday, off and are not able to request the 19th off on such short notice or simply cannot afford to take a day off from work.  Also, some are attending the national event and would like to attend our state event as well.

I am therefore planning to hold our rally on the following Saturday, April 24.

Stay tuned.

It would be appropriate for

It would be appropriate for us to walk to, and visit each of the various memorials adjacent to the Capital. The campus map shows a POW/MIA memorial, a WW2 memorial, a VietNam War memorial, and a Korean War memorial.

Each of these sites represent the sacrifices that have been made by our men and women in uniform to allow us to continue enjoying our God-given rights as guaranteed in the Bill of Rights.

After all, how many of us planning to attend are current or former members of the military? I suspect quite a few .....

Each one of those memorials

Each one of those memorials are really neat to look at. When I looked at visited them some years ago, I couldn't help but feel connected to each of the individuals from those wars. I've never been in the military, but I thank God for the indiduals who do serve. I think showing respect to those who have fallen for our freedoms would be a nice tribute.

See you there! Looking
