Capital Area Parking.

During weekdays, parking is a major problem around the Capitol. Although there is metered parking on all streets around Capitol Square, it is not adequate to handle the number of individuals who desire to park close to the Capitol.

There are six parking ramps within three blocks of the Capitol:
Boji Parking Ramp at the corner of Capitol and Allegan, the ramp at the corner of Townsend and Washtenaw.

The City Parking Ramp at Capitol and Kalamazoo.
The City Parking Ramp at the intersection of Allegan and Grand.
The City Parking Ramp at Ottawa and Grand.
The City Parking Ramp at Capitol and Shiawassee.

Parking space for cars and vans is also available in the Michigan Library and Historical Center parking lot.

If you have CPLs and don't mind the bus, park east of the Capitol along Michigan Ave. where the parking is better (Some business lots, etc.) and ride the bus. It will drop you off and pick you up right next to the Capitol. I think this is the number 1 bus route.

I also think there is a pick-up drop off at the Meridian Mall in Okemos on Michigan Ave, it's a ways but you can park at the mall for free. Also the #1 bus route.

For stops and times for the #1 bus check this link. http://tp.cata.org/hiwire

I'd like to know the answer

I'd like to know the answer to the last question, too.

State law does not prohibit

Your rating: None

State law does not prohibit the carrying of a loaded firearm in Lansing for this rally.

State law allows loaded

Your rating: None

State law allows loaded firearms in and on Capitol grounds. I have open carried inside the Capitol on a few occasions with no problems. The capitol police are aware of OC in and around the capitol.

I don't think guns are generally allowed in the gallery of the senate and house, but I don't know if they can really stop you.

All we ask is that you practice safe firearm practices and be aware of muzzle direction and if carrying a handgun to keep it in a holster at all times.

Why is the march being held

Your rating: None

Why is the march being held in the middle of the day in the middle of the week when people are pretty much forced to be at work? I would love to be at this but I cannot miss work. I am an extreme activist but I do my activism through actions that I can have a substantial number of individuals that can be involved.

The day was picked because

The day was picked because the legislature will be in session and we have some of them as speakers. It will also allow people that show up to visit their reps and discuss pro-gun issues. Also the media is more likely to have a full news staff during the week and are therefore more likely to cover the event. It's politics.

I understand that Tuesday is tough, but those that can make it will make it. Those that can't won't. People that won't to be there will take a vacation day to do it. They can also plan on other activities for the area as well.

I hope you and your friends can make it.

Why in middle of day in middle of week...

I can understand your concerns, but we need to let our voises be heard loud and clear when the morally bankrupt polute-icians are in town...unless they choose to take another long vacation.
