Scheduled Speakers

Larry PrattLarry Pratt has been Executive Director of Gun Owners of America for 26 years. GOA is a national membership organization of 300,000 Americans dedicated to promoting their Second Amendment freedom to keep and bear arms.

GOA lobbies for the pro-gun position in Washington, D.C. and is involved in firearm issues in the states. GOA's work includes providing legal assistance to those involved in lawsuits with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, the federal firearms law enforcement agency.

Pratt has appeared on numerous national radio and TV programs such as NBC's Today Show, CBS' Good Morning America, CNN's Crossfire and Larry King Live, Fox's Hannity and Colmes and many others. He has debated Congressman James Traficant, Jr. (D-OH), Charles Rangel (D-NY), Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY), Senator Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ), and Vice President Al Gore, among others. His columns have appeared in newspapers across the country.

He published a book, Armed People Victorious, in 1990 and was editor of a book, Safeguarding Liberty: The Constitution & Militias, 1995. His latest book, On the Firing Line: Essays in the Defense of Liberty was published in 2001.

Pratt has held elective office in the state legislature of Virginia, serving in the House of Delegates. Pratt directs a number of other public interest organizations and serves as the Vice-Chairman of the American Institute for Cancer Research.

Kenn BlanchardKenn Blanchard is a former Marine Security Guard who has worked protective details for international celebrities and US diplomats.  Later after becoming a federal police officer, he was detailed to protect a couple of families which morphed into another career path where he worked or taught firearms, tactics and protection. He is also a D.C.-area pastor who runs blackmanwithagun.com. Kenn has been involved in the struggle for the Second Amendment since the state of Virginia reformed its conceal carry law in the early nineties. He founded the Tenth Cavalry Gun Club, a national pro-gun organization for African Americans, and worked around the country after that to promote safe and responsible firearms ownership. He was involved in concealed carry reforms in Texas, South Carolina, Michigan and Wisconsin and has testified in the US Congress and in Maryland on bills or acts designed to prevent law abiding Americans from legal firearm ownership or concealed carry.

Suzanna HuppSuzanna G. Hupp is a former Republican member of the Texas House of Representatives and a recognized public advocate for the Second Amendment and an individual’s right to carry a concealed weapon.

A Friendswood, Texas, native, Suzanna Gratia (married name Hupp) was born on January 1, 1959. After she received a doctor of chiropractic degree from the Texas Chiropractic College in Pasadena, Texas, she owned and operated Cove Physical Rehab Clinic in Copperas Cove, Texas from 1987 until she sold the practice in 2000.

On Wednesday, October 16, 1991, Suzanna and her parents were having lunch at Luby’s Cafeteria in Killeen, when a man drove his truck into the restaurant and opened fire on the patrons. Suzanna instinctively reached into her purse for her handgun, but realized it was in her vehicle, as a new law was passed in Texas banning the carry of a concealed weapon. Suzanna escaped out of a broken window, but 23 unarmed others, including Suzanna’s mother and father, were killed at the hands of the gunman.

As a survivor of the Luby’s massacre, Suzanna has been quoted in U.S. News & World Report, The Wall Street Journal, Texas Monthly, Time and People magazines, in addition to appearing on CNN, 48 Hours, Today Show and World News Tonight, to name a few.

Hupp has since authored a memoir recounting her experiences in the massacre, entitled From Luby’s to the Legislature: One Woman’s Fight Against Gun Control, available October 2009.

Michael BaneMichael Bane is the host of Shooting Gallery, a show on the Outdoor Channel that every week explores a different facet of the very wide world of shooting, from competition to law enforcement to self-defense to the men and women at arms who are defending this country.

From Michael's bio:

"I am the number 1 firearms "personality" in the country and well as the top producer of firearms programming on television. I am host and executive producer of the huge Outdoor Channel hit show SHOOTING GALLERY, now in its 10th season; the cohost and executive producer of THE BEST DEFENSE and THE BEST DEFENSE/SURVIVAL, currently the top-rated gun shows on OC, and the executive producer of COWBOYS. My programs have won 3 Tellys," essentially cable Emmys — the only firearms shows to be so rewarded — as well as being named the top consumer firearms shows by the National Shooting Sports Foundation and the Single Action Shooting Society. I have 4 other series "in development" for late 2010 and 2011, as well as huge Internet project for 2011 titled "The 100th Anniversary - A Year of the 1911." I recently guested on The History Channel's highly rated AFTER ARMAGEDDON special as one of their experts on firearms and self-defense.

My DOWN RANGE Television website (www.downrange.tv), created by myself and partner Marshal Halloway and sold to Outdoor Channel last year) is the number 1 firearms website on the Internet; my weekly DOWN RANGE Radio podcast s the most-listened-to gun podcast on the Internet, with more than 100,000 monthly listeners. The Michael Bane Blog (http://michaelbane.blogspot.com/) is considered required daily reading in the industry.

I founded and managed for 5 years the NSSF Media Education Project, which is considered the most effective media initiative ever launched by the firearms industry. As a gunwriter, my work has appeared in all the major firearms magazines, including GUNS & AMMO, AMERICAN HANDGUNNER, SHOOTING TIMES, GUNS, GUN WORLD,SHOTGUN NEWS, etc. I have written commentary on forearms and RKBA issues for the WALL STREET JOURNAL and the AMERICAN JOURNALISM REVIEW, as well as appearances on NATIONAL PUBLIC RADIO and quoted extensively on firearms issues in such MSM as the NEW YORK TIMES, the WASHINGTON POST, etc.

I am the coauthor of 2 landmark books in shooting, YOU CAN'T MISS, which helped define practical shooting in the 1980s, and THE COMBAT .45 AUTO, which stands as one of the basic texts on the 1911. My own TRAIL SAFE is still in print and now considered a classic in self-defense books.

Back in the late 1970s, I helped launch practical pistol shooting in the United States and served as an executive for the United States Practical Shooting Association (conceiving and launching their still-published magazine, FRONT SIGHT) and helped found the National Range Officer Institute, which set the safety standards for matches nationwide. I also helped in the launch of the International Defensive Pistol Association and, last year, the Ruger Rimfire Challenge Series. I worked as a consultant for USA Shooting, the U.S. Olympic team, and conceived and launched a unique fundraising concept that has netted the Olympic team the most money in its history. I also consult with Wall Street as an expert on the firearms marketplace.

I am an active competitor in Cowboy Action Shooting and a columnist for the COWBOY CHRONICLE. I also compete occasionally in USPSA, IDPA and sporting clays. I am a member of the .50 Caliber Shooters Association and plan to compete in .50 BMG 1000-yard competition this summer."

Nikki GoeserNikki Goeser -- In April 2009, Nikki's husband, Ben, was killed by a gunman in a Tennessee sports bar. The gunman did not have a carry permit, and it was illegal at that time to bring a firearm into the establishment. Had she been able to carry her firearm into that bar, Nikki feels she may have been able to save her husband. In June 2009, the Tennessee legislature passed house bill number 962, which amended Tennessee's law that prohibited firearms in establishments that serve alcohol.  Since that time a rogue judge overturned that decision.  Nikki continues to fight for the right of Tennesseeans to protect themselves.  You can listen to Nikki's interview on Armed American Radio at http://uscca-downloads.s3.amazonaws.com/podcasts/AAR-11-30-2009-3.mp3 .

The Pink Pistols is a LBGT(Lesbain, Bisexual, Gay and Transgendered) rights group that advocates armed self defense to deal with hate crimes. Since a near-hijacking event in 2002, Mark writes about ordinary folks like you and I who have used a weapon to defend themselves as well as interviewing some of the nations biggest news makers and activists.  The list includes Ted Nugent, Dick Heller, politicians, internationally recognized trainers, weapons experts, criminal psychologists, television hosts, authors, real people who have used a firearm to defend themselves against violent attack and regular, ordinary folks who make a difference.

Mr. Walters is a member of the NRA, an NRA Certified Instructor in three disciplines, a member of the National Shooting Sports Foundation as well as a card carrying member of Georgiacarry.org and a vocal 2nd amendment activist in his home town.  In the spare time of his “real life”he ran his own successful business for over 13 years and now works full time on the nations airwaves as the host of Armed American Radio.

VCDL has enjoyed considerable success in restoring the rights of gun owners in Virginia, including spearheading such legislation as a powerful firearms preemption bill that passed into law in 2004, wiping out almost all local gun control.  VCDL also organized a successful national grassroots effort to change the National Park regulations to allow for the lawful carry of firearms.

Philip has represented gun owners in the media with CBS's 60-Minutes and ABC's Nightline, and countless times on local Virginia radio, television and newspapers.

You might consider contacting "Ranger Ray" Martinez, a retired Texas Ranger, and author of the book "They Call Me Ranger Ray." He was the man, then a local policeman, who shot Charles Whitman, the UT Sniper, back in 1965. He commented in several places about his support for armed citizens, and mentions that 1 of the 2 people who went up the clock tower with him when he shot Whitman was an armed civilian on the scene. Might get an interesting perspective from him. He might be willing to speak free or if you just let him sell his books through a link on your website.

You should contact Mark Walters from the Amred American Radio. www.armedamericanradio.org. He writes for Concealed Carry Magazine and also just co-authored a new book, Lessons from Armed America. He would be a great speaker himself and he is always hosting others that would also be great speakers. Suzanna Hupp has been on his show numerous times. Massad Ayoob, and the hosts of The Best Defense television series. Thanks. Tom-Toledo, Ohio

What happened to Ted? According to an old article that I have from this site (2/13/2009), you announced
that he has enthusiastically agreed to perform and speak at the Second Amendment March in Spring 2010.

According to his assistant,

Your rating: None

According to his assistant, Ted wanted to speak at the march but upon review of his schedule, it appears that he can't schedule another charity event in 2010. He already gives a lot of time and money and just can't fit another one in. We checked on his fee, but don't have the funds to hire him to speak and perform.
This was a disappointment to us as well. He would have been a great addition to the march.

You do realize that O'Reilly is anti-gun, right?

O'Reilly reply...

To the degree of not owning a gun himself or not wanting any law abiding citizen to own a gun? Or do you even know what you're talking about?

Bill O'Reilly

Bill has spoken many times on his show about supporting the assualt weapons ban and he does not support concealed carry . . . hardly someone you should have speak at a second amendment march . . .

O'Reily

Your rating: None

I had hear/read in the past that he was anti-gun (Not a total ban freak, but supported AWB, no CC ect.) but changed his tune after hurricane Katrina, and seeing what importance firearms played there.

"O'Reilly is denounced as a 'conservative' by people who believe the nation's newsrooms accurately reflect the political spectrum. O'Reilly is anti-death penalty and PRO-GUN CONTROL, believes in 'global warming...'"

Hmmm, now Coulter doesn't accurately reflect all my views, however I believe she knows O'Reilly just a tad more than any of you.

Wake Up!

Suggestions

How about Marcus Luttrell - good American, believe he is quite pro-gun. Chuck Norris would be awesome. R Lee Ermy would be good too. Those last two would do well to bring some attention to the issue, and incentive for more to attend, even if they are not highly involved in 2A issues.

Bigger question - why is no one from the NRA speaking??? Ron Schmeits or Wayne LaPierre should be there!

NRA Board Members

He has broadcast from capitol hill in Washington on several occasions. Check out his web site: philvalentine.com

What happened Uncle Ted?

Your rating: None

That is very disappointing that Ted Nugent will not be there. I think he is great but I feel a little like he is letting us down. Why does he have to do it as charity? We can't he clear his schedule for the day to take a stand for himself as well as the rest of us. Will Ignatius Piazza be there? I am sending his flags in to the government on the 19th! Hope he will be there, also hope everyone else is sending in the Gadsden flag!

Why does that make this person unacceptable?

Your rating: None Average: 5 (2 votes)

1) I personally don't see that as sufficient reason to bar their participation, nor does it make their opinions wrong or invalid by itself

2) (S)He sounds like, according to the description of experience, just the type of person who makes a tremendous ally in the Pro 2A cause. You could even make the argument that this person has increased value to the cause, rather than being unacceptable or a negative.

I know it's a bit late in the game to change the schedule, but wouldn't you stand a better chance of getting high-profile speakers if it wasn't scheduled on the anniversary of the Oklahoma City bombing? Might be misinterpreted as a commemoration, which is sure to scare off elected officials who champion gun rights. Just sayin.

I see Michael Bane will be there GOOD ; I have seen Him on many shows on the Outdoor ch. the Hist. ch. etc. He is a good speaker and knows what he is talking about When it comes to personal defense and the Second Amendment. You can learn a lot from him and many of the others on the list .

You do not want Bill O'Reilly. When he had Stewart Rhodes on his show he labeled Mr. Rhodes and the Oathkeepers idea of actually keeping their oaths "extreme". He is not an advocate for liberty if the keeping one's oath to the constitution strikes him as "extreme" and "dangerous", both words he used to impart his opinion of Oathkeepers keeping their oaths.
