FAQs

What is the Second Amendment March?

Second Amendment March is a grass-roots organization that is pulling together Second Amendment supporters across the United States for a peaceful march in Washington, D.C, our nation's capital. We welcome ANYONE who supports the right to keep and bear arms, regardless of political leanings, gender, race, religion, etc. We also welcome both gun owners and non-gun owners alike! We have many supporters who have never owned -- and may never own -- a firearm, but they strongly believe in the Consitution and the importance of preserving the Second Amendment as our founding fathers intended.

Will people be carrying guns?

Because it is the right of all people to keep and bear arms, we fully support the peaceful carrying of firearms where allowed by law. However, because Washington DC's overly oppressive laws prohibit carrying firearms in public, We cannot promote or condone carrying firearms at the march in Washington DC (DON'T DO IT!) However, if not prohibited by law at any of our satellite marches, we fully support the peaceful carrying of arms.

What good is an unarmed second amendment rally?

Simple.  It serves to encourage like-minded Americans to celebrate our American heritage of the right to keep and bear arms.  Sure, we could have held it anywhere (like a place that doesn't restrict your right to carry), but celebrating that heritage with the backdrop of our nation's seat of government illustrates the irony of legislation that restricts law-abiding Americans and empowers criminals, who have no regard for the law.  Our nation was won via the individual right to keep and bear arms, yet thousands of freedom-loving patriots will leave their arms behind to celebrate our heritage in D.C.

You should do "X, Y, Z"!

We have received hundreds (if not thousands) of emails since we started planning back in February of 2009.  Most of them are positive, some of them are not.  That's okay.  We value all of your input.  All we can tell you is that we are a small group of moms, dads, husbands, wives, brothers, sisters -- all with families, careers, and other everyday obligations.  None of us have ever planned something like this before, so it's all new territory for us.  Occasionally we forget to respond to an email.  Sometimes our spam filter blocks it and we don't realize it.  We certainly don't mean to snub anyone.  We read all of your suggestions, too.  Sometimes they are things that we have already considered or they are in the works.  Other times they are suggestions that we cannot implement due to D.C. law or National Park Service regulations.  Sometimes they are great ideas but we just have no funding for it (such as a television ad or advertising on a well-known website).

When and where is the march?

We are recruiting state coordinators to organize local marches in each state, which will be held prior to the national march in Washington, D.C.  Please check the page for your individual state for more information.  The date for the national march in D.C. is on April 19, 2010, and is scheduled to run from 10:00 a.m. until approximately 4:00 p.m. on the grounds of the Washington Monument.

Are there any events/marches/meetings taking place in my area?

Please check your state page for information on local marches.  If your state coordinator has not updated the information there, please be sure to send them an email to ask them to do so. If you would like to coordinate a Town Hall Meeting in your area, please contact us via our contact form.

I've heard rumors that Ted Nugent will be there to speak. Is this true?

We have been in contact with Ted Nugent's Personal Assistant and she quoted us a speaking fee for Mr. Nugent. While Mr. Nugent would be a great asset to the march, we simply cannot afford him. We express our regrets.

What can individuals do to help?

Yes. We have emailed Glenn Beck and others, and several of our supporters have done the same. To garner support for Second Amendment March, it is essential that supporters such as yourself take up the cause and join us in writing/calling as many legislators and media personalities as possible.

Won't the mainstream media just give us negative press?

Perhaps, but that's not why we're doing this. If pro-Second Amendment supporters waited to protest until the media approved of us, then we may as well stay home and turn in our firearms now. Some media will report the truth while others will not. Our job is to show up.

I can't travel all the way to DC. Is there another way I can be a part?

Absolutely! Satellite marches and rallies will be planned and scheduled all across the nation in state capitols and in other cities. If two farmers and a herd of cows want to register a march with us, then so be it. This isn't just for those who have the means to travel, but for hard-working Americans everywhere. If you wish to sponsor a march in your hometown, please register here on the site.

Will the Federal Government really allow us to do this?

Yes, provided we follow all rules, procedures and laws of the venue's jurisdiction. We are gathering a team of promoters and lawyers to help us do this legally. You can attend without fear of retribution from the government. This is still "America" not "Amerika".

Note: If you have a question that isn't answered here, please submit it to us and we will consider adding it to our FAQ list. Also, you can go to our forums and see if your question has been answered there.
